Alla Posta Dei Donini
C. Italy: Umbria: San Martino in Campo
Located in the center of the little town of San Martino in Campo, only 8 km from Perugia (with public bus service), this 17th century property was a private villa until two years ago when it was sold and completely renovated by the new owners. It opened as a hotel in the summer of 2001. The original owners, a Venetian family by the name of Donini, were in the silk business. The estate is comprised of several buildings: accommodations are in two villas, Villa Costanza (3 stories), which is connected to Villa Laura (2 stories) by a glass enclosed breakfast room done in the style of an English conservatory. The hotel's restaurant, Pantagruel, is housed in a building that was originally the gatekeeper's lodge, with an outdoor "piazza" for special evenings or cocktail parties, and a chef who came from a 3-star Michelin rated restaurant. Another building, formerly the stables, has a wonderful space for weddings, parties, etc. It is separate from the main hotel so groups attending these functions do not interfere with hotel guests. Villa Costanza features ceiling frescoes dating to the 18th century. One meeting room that is also used for concerts features completely frescoed walls and ceiling. All rooms in the main building (Villa Costanza) have separate tub and shower in the bathrooms. Floors are hardwood; the decor uses natural colors throughout. The fully equipped rooms have been very tastefully done and are light, airy and pristine. There is a beautiful large swimming pool on the grounds with a "clubhouse" for snacks and beverages. With complimentary guest parking, this property is very attractive and well suited for clients traveling by car through Umbria.
