The very talented and creative owner of the Bauer Hotel and Bauer Il Palazzo has created another hotel, this one on Giudecca Island, very close to the Hotel Cipriani and just a short not even 5 minutes) boat ride across from Il Palazzo. There is even a solar powered boat to make the crossing from the mainland. A house directly next to the hotel is owned by Elton John.
The building was formerly a convent dating to the 16th century designed by the renowned architect, Andrea Palladio. Built around a church and cloister, the hotel is comprised of 50 rooms and has a full spa (a good reason for guests from Il Palazzo and the Bauer to take the boat across to the hotel!). It is a very quiet location - even in high season - except at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning when the church bells chime for mass!
All rooms are different in size and layout. Some face the inner courtyard, some face the garden, while others have a view of the Grand Canal. The ones that face the Grand Canal are either doubles (7) or suites and junior suites (7). Rooms that have a prime view of the Grand Canal have a picture postcard perspective. They can see the Doges Palace, St. Mark's Square plus a wide expanse of the Grand Canal. Some rooms have original wood ceilings. Original floors have been kept throughout the building.
There are junior suites with sofa beds, perfect for families. One very spacious junior suite (128) has an outside terrace with garden view and connects to a very nice double room. Another junior suite (125) has a bed lofted above the living room and features a private terrace facing the Grand Canal.
The restaurant with its antique fountain offers meals throughout the day. The spa is full service and features treatments for both health and beauty. Staff here is very accommodating. This will surely be a popular new addition to the Bauer family of hotels.
