Carrig Country House
Ireland: County Kerry: Killorglin
The warm welcome from Mary and Frank Slattery is just the beginning of a wonderful experience at Carrig Country House. The house was originally built in 1850 as the hunting lodge for an aristocratic family and is a fine example of an Irish Victorian Country Manor. With its tranquil location just one mile from the Ring of Kerry, overlooking Caragh Lake and the Kerry mountains, this property is literally awash in beautiful gardens, gorgeous views and magnificent sunsets. The gardens host 935 different species of mature trees and plants including some that are rare and exotic. The croquet lawn is set in a glade of colorful shrubs and towering trees. The restaurant at Carrig Country House, overlooking the gardens and lake, boasts chefs that have been critically acclaimed in national and international media. There is an extensive a la carte menu using the best of local produce. Guests have an opportunity to meet in the comfortable drawing room prior to and after dinner. The en suite bedrooms are spacious and each is decorated in period style (no two are the same), and with the majority facing the lake, one can hear the water lapping on the shore. The piece de la resistance is the Presidential Suite with its own separate panoramic sitting room, two separate dressing rooms and bathroom with whirlpool tub. Families with children are welcome. To see and do in the area are 15 outstanding golf courses, the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula and the Killarney Lakes and National Park. Famous golf courses nearby include Waterville, Tralee, Killarney, Ballybunion, Doonbeg and Lahinch.
NOTE: Closed December, January and February inclusive. Gratuities are at the guest's discretion.
