Hotel Campo Marzio
N. Italy: Veneto: Vicenza
With a great location on the edge of the historic center which dates to the pre-Roman period, this hotel is housed in a contemporary building (built after WW II) and is being completely renovated by the new owner, Raimondo Giavarini, the former manager of the Due Torri and a longtime friend of JDB. Out of 35 rooms, 10 have bathtubs and the remainder have showers. The hotel is being restructured floor by floor, work which was begun in November 2002 and is scheduled to be completed by 2004. The new rooms all have hydromassage showers. There are no suites or junior suites and no connecting rooms. Rooms are not large but are well furnished with all amenities - minibar, satellite television, and in-room safe. Room 308 is a very nice corner room with a window in the bathroom. Room 311 is a very attractive double with Jacuzzi tub. There is also a restaurant at the hotel which is open for dinner, and there is free parking for hotel guests, another big plus. 75% of the gold jewelry sold in Italy is manufactured in Vicenza. There is an excellent antiques market on the second Sunday of every month. Vicenza was the home of the famous architect Palladio, and there are many beautiful buildings in the city center designed by him. We visited the Teatro Olimpico dating to 1585, another Palladian masterpiece. The town is approximately 45 minutes from Venice by car. From our past association with the Giavarini family, you can be assured that JDB clients will receive the hotel's best attention.
