Hotel Grau Roig
Spain: Catalonia: Grau Roig
Located in the heart of the ancient Pessons glacier circle, Hotel Grau Roig in the Principality of Andorra is an escape to nature amongst spectacular mountain vistas. With a modern yet rustic dcor, the attention to detail at this property is extraordinary. Newly renovated spaces include the Theater of Wine, which is a private restaurant with a seating capacity of nine persons, created to give a decadent dining experience to those interested in haute cuisine paired with incredible wines - the hotel boasts a collection of over 450 labels! Renovated accommodations are large with mood lighting, contemporary yet warm furnishings, and modern fixtures. There is also a new spa that features a state-of-the-art fitness area with an indoor swimming pool, and a wide array of treatments to include special massages for aching post skiing muscles. For skiers, the hotel is located at the base of a mountain range and a ski lift is just steps from the hotel's entrance!

Dining at either of the hotel's two restaurants, La Marmita and La Vaqueria, is a fantastic way for guests to taste exquisite and creative regional cuisine. Upon being seated at the more formal Marmita the very enthusiastic Matre d' Rolland Caravaca, provides detailed descriptions and suggestions on menu selections. The very knowledgeable sommelier, Thomas Tiffon, can perfectly pair wine for each meal...or dish! La Vaqueria offers more casual dining to include an outdoor patio that guests can enjoy even during winter months due to outdoor heated lamps.

Known as a low tax shopping Mecca, the principality of Andorra is much more than malls and boutiques. Just outside of most villages visitors can visit Romanesque remains, museums, and many picturesque and well preserved medieval towns such as Ordino. Andorra is also a destination that can be enjoyed year-round; winter sports rule during cold weather months and in the summer, visitors can enjoy horseback riding, trekking, and hiking. Located about three hours north of Barcelona by car and 128 km from Perpignan, France, a stop in Andorra is excellent choice for driving itineraries connecting Northeastern Spain and Southeastern France.
