Hotel San Luca
C. Italy: Umbria: Spoleto
The Hotel San Luca, opened in Spoleto in 1995, is a work of love for the Zuccari family who owns the hotel. Spoleto is the hometown of Daniela Zuccari, and she pours all of her enthusiasm and love into the San Luca (named for the place her husband was born). Tony Randall stayed here for the music festival in 2000. Built around a central courtyard, the hotel has an ideal location just outside the walls of the old city, a short walk to the center. Its neighbor is a cloister so the hotel is very quiet. Daniela's charming husband, Paolo, told us it is the only hotel where "bathrooms come with bedrooms"! His company sells luxury bathroom equipment, and the five-star marble bathrooms are not only very well thought out, lighted, etc., they are among the cleanest we have seen. Most have windows, but just in case, there is a built-in defogger behind the mirror! All rooms are fully equipped with safe, mini-bar, satellite television and Frette linen sheets. The first floor rooms have jacuzzi tubs. Family members bake irresistible cakes daily that are included in the generous breakfast buffet. There is even a new garage (for a fee) for client parking as parking is nearly impossible in Spoleto. Except for its world famous Music Festival for two weeks near the end of June, Spoleto is another unspoiled hill town, full of charming antique shops and excellent family-owned restaurants. Open year round.
