This wonderful four-star property, located in the countryside just outside of Cortona, is comprised of several buildings many of which were farmers' houses and date back to the 17th century. What a fabulous job the owners have done of restoring and designing the interiors of these wonderful buildings. There is only one multi-accommodation building on the property; most are located in individual buildings adding to the feeling of privacy.

Many antique furnishings have been used, and Silvia Regi Baracchi has an obvious talent for dcor. The public areas, including the cantina where wine tastings are held, are impressive with the extent of detail. In fact, the cantina is reminiscent of a comfortable living room in a private home. A beautiful outdoor pool is among the property's facilities. A new spa should be completed by 2009.

Chef Richard Titi runs the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, Limonaia, which specializes in regional cuisine. Service and quality of food and presentation are second to none. On one visit, we ordered dessert after dinner and before the dessert arrived, a platter of exquisite miniature desserts arrived, each one set in a different doll-size plate, cup or dish. Dining takes place on a beautiful terrace with view of Cortona in warm weather months. For clients interested in learning about Italian gastronomy cooking courses are available from September through May.

Silvia's husband, Riccardo Baracchi, oversees the wine production and wine tours are offered to guests. The estate also produces an excellent olive oil.
