Il Moresco Hotel & Spa
S. Italy: Campania: Ischia
When the filming of "The Talented Mr. Ripley" began in Ischia in 1998, Anthony Mengella and some of the stars stayed at the Il Moresco. The Moorish style hotel was built in 1955, just steps from the shops and restaurants of the town center. Guests come here for tranquility and service. The standard rooms are not large but are beautifully appointed. Comfort rooms are a nice size while the superior rooms (terraces of superior rooms are not private) and junior suites are spacious. The Tower Suite is built on two levels with a bedroom, sitting area and two bathrooms and enjoys a spectacular view of the Gulf of Naples from its terraces. The hotel has a lovely outdoor pool and secluded grotto pool with heated mineral water. There is also a full spa and beauty center including a beautiful indoor pool with waterfall, aquatic massage, sauna and fitness center. The hotel is very proud of its chef, and seafood specialties abound. Across the street and about 50 yards away, the hotel has its own beach. The hotel's young manager - a real star and an inspiration for his staff - says that Ischia is not designed exclusively for tourists as is the case with their well-known neighboring island! La Mortella gardens created by the English composer William Walton and his wife are a "must see" on the island. Concerts for young musicians are frequently hosted there.
NOTE: Thermal water pools not suitable for children under 12. Hotel normally opens around Easter and closes the end of October. Rental cars with a license from the region of Campania are not allowed on Ischia. Closest airport is on the mainland at Naples.
