Il Pellicano
C. Italy: Tuscany: Porto Ercole
Situated on a finger of the coast of Tuscany jutting into the Tyrrhenian Sea, Il Pellicano is nestled high on a hillside surrounded by cypress, olive and pine trees, just outside of the small resort town of Porto Ercole. The resort offers an exclusive, private club atmosphere and attracts a sophisticated clientele. Accommodations, which have either sea or garden view, range from rooms to deluxe suites. The resort now boasts a fabulous full service spa, fitness center, boutique, excellent meeting room and guest rooms, all created in a separate building on the property. These facilities are really impressive. The resort has always enjoyed a reputation for fine cuisine at its one Michelin starred restaurant, now glass-enclosed to allow indoor/outdoor dining, depending on the weather. (JDB recommends guests book a meal plan because the cuisine is excellent and has no equal close by.) In the evening, there is a piano bar. Dress is informal, meaning casual but elegant. The hotel manager, Cinzia Fanciulli, is excellent. Attention to guests by her staff is unsurpassed.
NOTE: Children under 12 are not permitted at the resort. Resort normally closes in late October and reopens in late March.
