Relais Villa Matilde
N. Italy: Piemonte: Romano Canavese
Located in the countryside near Torino in the northern Piemonte region of Italy, Villa Matilde was built in 1750 as a private residence. Situated on three acres in a large park, it has recently undergone an extensive renovation and has been converted to an elegant hotel while preserving the villa's original details, from antique furnishings and original artwork to classic frescoed walls.
The main building includes the original billiard room, living rooms with library as well as the guestrooms and suites. There are connecting rooms for families.
Outdoor amenities include a swimming pool and tennis court located in an orchard surrounded by mature trees. The former stables have been converted into a restaurant and meeting room. A bar and fitness center are being created in what was originally the "Limonaia", where lemon trees were kept during cooler months.
With the Alps as a majestic backdrop, Romano Canavese is located 20 miles from Turin, one of northern Italy's most important cities. The picturesque Piemonte region is renowned for the production of some of Italy's finest wines (including the world famous Barolo and Barbaresco reds) as well as white truffles and other gourmet items.
