La Tana dell'Istrice offers guests the opportunity to sample wines and visit hilltowns and Etruscan ruins from its wonderful location practically on the border between Lazio and Umbria. The hotel, which has only 12 rooms, is owned by the Mottura family who are producers of wine and other agricultural products, all of which are grown organically. In fact, the deepest caves under the hotel where some of the wines are aged date back to the Etruscan period when the village of Civitella d'Agliano was founded.
Day 1: Arrival at hotel. Visit the wine cellars for wine tasting, which will
be continued during dinner, with each course accompanied by a different wine.
Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel (everything is homemade!). Depart for Tarquinia, where you'll meet your guide for a visit of the National Etruscan Museum, containing one of Italy's most important collections of Etruscan artifacts, and its extensive necropolis, noted for its beautifully decorated tombs, with wall paintings documenting Etruscan life. Then visit the walled, medieval town of Tuscania and its 5th century BC Etruscan burial mounds and the churches of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Pietro, the latter built in the 11th century on the site of an Etruscan acropolis. Lunch (additional charge) will be in either Tuscania or Tarquinia. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Breakfast and departure.
