The Magnificent Temples of Paestum
8 Hours
Enjoy a two hour private tour of Paestum, one of Italys largest and most powerful Greek colonies dating to 650 B.C. Gleaming white marble temples are set against a background of silver mountains and deep blue sea, a hauntingly beautiful sight that rivals the Greek temples found in Sicily. Paestum boasts three well-preserved Doric temples, ruins of ancient houses and a museum of Greek artifacts. The Temple of Hera is the oldest, best preserved and considered the most beautiful Doric temple in existence today. This area is also known for its production of buffalo milk mozzarella cheese, and your next stop will be at a 17th century villa turned into a factory that produces this delicious cheese. See how mozzarella is made, starting with a visit to the buffalos through the production process to the final product. Then enjoy a tasteful lunch (additional cost) of ricotta, mozzarella and other cheeses served with focaccia and local wine. Return to your hotel via the stunning Amalfi Coast.
