BARCELONA, Spain - Private Shore Excursions

Private Shore Excursions are available daily from the ports of Barcelona, Cádiz and Málaga. When booking Shore Excursions, please provide the name of the ship, with arrival and departure times from the port. Most vehicles used for shore excursions are Mercedes E-class (or similar) for 1 - 2 passengers; VW Caravelle or Mercedes Viano (or similar) for 3 - 6 passengers; and 16 or 19 seat coaches for 7 or more passengers. However, JDB Ground retains the right to substitute a different vehicle type if necessary.

Tour itineraries are subject to change due to site closings, inclement weather, strikes or other unforeseen circumstances. JDB Ground reserves the right to substitute a venue or site during a tour in the event the scheduled site is not available. Entrance fees to museums and exhibits are not included in the rate unless indicated, nor are gratuities for drivers and guides.

Should the client miss the scheduled Shore Excursion for any reason, the client will be charged the full fee and is not entitled to a refund. Please advise at the time of booking if the client has a physical disability or if there are children needing a car seat.

Best of Barcelona

You will be met at your ship and transferred to Barcelona to begin a walking tour of its Gothic Quarter with your private guide. Barcelona possesses an artistic heritage from many different periods, and is especially rich in Gothic and Art Nouveau styles. See the 13th century Gothic cathedral, the old Call of Barcelona (Jewish quarter), and as an option (additional charge), the Picasso Museum that showcases may of the artist's most important paintings. After lunch (additional charge), visit the modernist buildings of the Eixample, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Stroll the Paseo de Gracia, the famous street known for the contrast in the architecture of its buildings. View the works of Antoni Gaudi, often labeled the best modern artist, who incorporated Gothic and Baroque styles with Islamic art to create his own personal style of architecture. Visit the Sagrada Familia, one of his masterpieces, and La Pedrera, a residential building designed by Gaudi and often described as more sculpture than building.

Penedès Wine & the Golden Beaches of Sitges

Depart your ship for a drive through the beautiful wine region of the Penedès, where 95% of Spain's Cava, or sparkling wine is made. At the Codorníu Cellars, where the same family has been producing wine since the 16th century, the first bottle of cava was produced. Tour the imposing winery buildings, designed specifically for the production and aging of cava. This impressive architectural complex has been declared a Monument of Historical and Artistic Interest. Learn the process of wine production and the history of the cellar, and enjoy a glass of cava. Next visit the beautiful seaside village of Sitges, where Picasso and Dali both spent time. Walk the narrow streets of its historic quarter, a former medieval fortress; visit the Cau Ferrat Museum created by the Catalán artist Santiago Rusiñol from two 16th century cottages that features works of El Greco and Picasso as well as Rusiñol; and then enjoy a seafood lunch by the Seaside Promenade (additional cost). In the afternoon, return to the wine country to visit Bodegas Torres, awarded the 2006 prize for best European Winery of the year by Wine Enthusiast. The Torres family surname has been linked with wine for more than three centuries, and its vineyards produce both outstanding red and white wines, as well as rosé. Tour the cellars and enjoy a wine tasting that will reveal the subtle differences between the three types of wine, before returning to your ship.

Dali's Costa Brava: Figueres, Rosas and Cadaqués

Visit the picturesque towns of the Costa Brava, beginning with Figueres, the beautiful village where Salvador Dali, Spain's most famous surrealist, was born. Tour the Teatre Museu Dali, a museum built by Dali that contains many of his masterpieces in various art forms including paintings, watercolors, charcoal and sculpture. Continue along the Costa Brava to Rosas (a Greek colony of Rhodes), a seaside village with lovely beaches and transparent blue water. Take a stroll inside the Citadel; cross the impressive XVI century gate, Puerta de Mar, to discover Greek ruins dating to 776 B.C., the remains of 200 B.C. - 400 A.D. Roman cities, and the XI century Santa Maria Romanic monastery. Then enjoy a delicious Mediterranean lunch featuring grilled fish (additional cost). The last stop is considered the jewel of the coast: Cadaqués, the place that was Dali's inspiration. Unspoiled and remote, the village is known for its crystal blue water, whitewashed houses and sandy beaches. Dali spent summers in nearby Port-Lligat for over 50 years; his house is now a museum that will be visited before returning to your ship.
