JDB Tours do not have to be booked in conjunction with a hotel booking. Most vehicles used for tours are Mercedes vehicles: E-class, V-class or Sprinter, and 16 seat minibuses. However, JDB Ground retains the right to substitute a different vehicle if necessary. Tour itineraries are subject to change due to site closings, inclement weather, strikes or other unforeseen circumstances. JDB Ground reserves the right to substitute a venue or site during a tour in the event the scheduled site is not available. In rare instances it may be necessary to reschedule the starting time of the tour; in such situations, clients will be notified in advance.
Entrance fees to museums and exhibits are not included in the rate unless indicated, nor are gratuities for drivers and guides. Unless otherwise indicated in the tour description, tours begin at either 9:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. and are available daily. Preference for either morning or afternoon tour must be indicated at the time of booking. The guide will meet clients at their hotel, unless another meeting point is designated in the itinerary. Exploring Two Ancient Civilizations: Etruscan & Roman
8 Hours
Depart your Rome hotel at 9:00 a.m. with your driver and guide for the ancient city of Tarquinia, one of the most powerful Etruscan cities from the 8th to the 4th centuries B.C. and noted for its wall paintings documenting Etruscan life. Then continue on to Tuscania, a walled town built on a hill of tufa rock and surrounded by 5th century B.C. Etruscan burial mounds. Enjoy a stop for lunch along the coast (additional cost) en route to Ostia Antica, the trading port of ancient Rome. This extensive archaeological site clearly reconstructs the ancient city: the baths; the town's commercial center where remains of mosaic "signs" in front of each shop indicate the business, such as ship transport, furrier, rope maker; a massive outdoor theatre; private houses; an ancient café; and several religious structures: a synagogue, Christian chapels and a number of temples to the god Mithras.
