Castello di Gargonza
C. Italy: Tuscany: Monte San Savino
Castello di Gargonza is a large estate owned by a noble Italian family located in Monte San Savino near Arezzo in central Tuscany. This property includes a charming 12th century walled hill town which was Dante's home during his escape from Florence. In more recent times Castello di Gargonza has been used by famous Italian film director, Roberto Benigni, as an artistic refuge where he wrote his last three films including the award winning "Life is Beautiful". Accommodations are located throughout the hill town and include ten hotel rooms, 14 one-bedroom apartments with kitchenette and eight apartments with two-five bedrooms. The property is an excellent value for families as rates are very reasonable and many of the accommodations offer connecting rooms. Nearby Arezzo, which hosts a renowned monthly antique fair, has a rich historical past and retains much of its medieval architecture. Arezzo is ideal for exploring museums, churches, and shops.
