Hotel Capo D'Africa
C. Italy: Lazio: Rome
This stylish hotel, just two blocks from the Colosseum, is in an area of Rome that has become a very chic place to live. During the Roman period, it was the ancient center where the Romans lived. It is a lively area, full of restaurants and coffee shops, and one can see a lot of restoration taking place. The hotel, which takes its name from the street on which it is located, is filled with the owner's private collection of contemporary Italian art. The building, which was formerly a school, dates to the 19th century and has been completely renovated to include all comforts - marble bathrooms, double pane windows, and internet connection. At the end of each corridor, there are two rooms that can be locked off together for families. The unique studio suite has a very large private terrace with a view of the Colosseum! Nearby are Villa Celimontana, a park where open air jazz concerts are held every year from June through September, and the San Clemente Basilica (worth a visit) that has been completely restored. Piazza Venezia is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
